Il Mistero di Oberwald (The Oberwald Mystery)
It is the turn of the century. The queen of a middle European country has been in hiding for 10 years following the assassination of the king. When she gives refuge to an anarchist poet on the run, she finds he resembles her dead husband and takes him as her "angel of death" lover. The film is distinguished by its complete dedication to colour and technical experimentation: Antonioni shot the film with a video camera and then transferred it to film.

"...I had to take into account that the format for the two screens is different. Close-ups on television's square screen require different compositions from the cinema screen. Consequently I have often composed the image in two way for the same scene..." On the making of The Oberwald Mystery (Sight and Sound, Winter 1979/80)
