ABOUT THE FILM
Kumbha Mela

In India in January 1977, Antonionui filmed his impressions of Kumbha Mela, the most important Indian religious holiday. The celebration takes place every 12 years at the scared place near the town of Allahabad. During the feast in January and February, the Ganges is almost dry, but millions of people stay for days to pray before making their own way to the Fangum, the exact confluence of the three rivers, for a purifying bath. Antonioni edited the footage in 1989.
